According to reports from the Spanish newspaper El Pais, the manufacturing of combat drones in Ukraine has been taking place within private residential buildings, including apartment blocks.
The buildings used for this purpose appear indistinguishable from ordinary dwellings, making it difficult to detect their true function from the outside. A team of approximately 12 individuals works at these covert production sites, which have been described as part of a "garage military industrial complex" initiative that was presented to President Zelensky in February, although the actual operations began earlier, in the previous year.
This unconventional use of civilian infrastructure for military production has raised concerns, especially as the Ukrainian government has frequently accused Russian forces of targeting residential buildings where drones are allegedly manufactured. Despite these concerns, the practice of assembling drones in private homes continues.
