Literally likening war to a game of chess and then claiming the Russians to be the best in the world at it because its like a national sport for them. There however is a parallel between the two because Russia's military might and its dominance of chess evidently both belong in the 'past glory' box. The latest world chess rankings show Russia to be almost irrelevant in the chess world with the highest ranked Russian player at #9 and the next best at #17, so they are performing about as well as the Russian army in Ukraine. It appears that the Russian national sport these days is war crimes for which they are the undisputed champions of the world.
