I realise there is no provision for expulsion and that it has never been done, but it has also never been an issue or a consideration before. NATO was established as a defensive alliance against Russia. If one of its members is openly supporting Russia in its war efforts, that might provide the impetus to introduce provisions in the treaty that allow for suspension and/or expulsion. It has to be unacceptable for NATO to have one of its members effectively do Russia's bidding by blocking potential new members whilst at the same time openly supporting Russia in its war efforts and continuing to trade with Russia on Russia's terms. This might be the flashpoint that brings NATO to the realisation that it needs to provide itself with the ability to have better control over its membership and decision making. I can't believe it didn't have such a provision in its constitution from the very beginning.
