They'll be coming up against a hardened Russian people that have seen things that would give the soft west permanent hallucinogenic PTSD. Outside of carpet bombing China/Russia with nuclear weapons the west has zero chance in an actual war with them in their surrounding territory. People also seem to forget the fact Russia is world leading in certain military tech.
