The narrative is tiresome and propagandist. It has 3 basic narratives:

1. Russia lies all the time and is inherently genetically bad..
2.Ukraine/UK/USA never ever ever lie. They are inherently genetically good.
3. It is a good vs evil fight. Goodies and baddies. So easy to understand.

The reality is much more banal.
The banality of evil as Hannah Arendt so eloquently stated.
Big gangster kicks little gangster after little gangster tries to join a rival big gangster.
Big gangster offers little gangster a chance to not join rival big gangster.
But little gangster chooses rival big gangster.
So big gangster decides to teach little gangster a lesson.

Both use patsy's to do their proxy war.
Both use civilians to do the dying.
They are both morally bankrupt and utterly corrupt.
Accept that and you have matured into a true understanding of empire power politics.
