hey koozy, how's it going? Been a bit busy at work and battling out insults with your brother and sister at arms CromV and DolceV (are they married btw?).
You are absolutely correct on this one.
Russia has always been absolutely crap at offensive battles-a generalisation of course.
Austerlitz, Tannenberg, Tsushima, Finland ,most of WW2, Afghanistan.
Even when they were "winning" from 1943 their casualty rate was horrendous compared to the Germans and most of their victories - Moscow 41, Stalingrad 43, Kursk 43 -were defensive battles followed by counter attack. Bagration 44 was the exception vs a massively weakened Axid force fighting 3 fronts.
However the sense of chaos, ineptitude and buffoonery which has always existed amongst their generals, leads enemies to seriously underestimate their capacity to endure and suffer and recover to victory when in a defensive all or nothing situation.
They are masters at counter attack.
Having said all that, this time its Slav vs Slav so they are both tough as ....
It remains to be seen if the "softer" new Slavs have the same stoicism and fortitude as their forebears.
