You don't realise that most of the Russian convoys are staffed with inexperienced conscripts who had no idea where they were going or what they were doing. They were told it was just an exercise, because the Generals thought it would take a few days at most, and expected to instal a puppet state in place pretty effortlessly.
When the lines of the convoy got attacked, the conscripts didn't have the experience or equipment to go around them off road.
So they got stuck. Then they ran out of fuel. The roads got clogged. Timing was in disarray.
The attacks have been coming via drones, and this was a masterstroke by Zelenskyy.
The Russian logistics planners were poorly informed or didn't do their jobs well. Either way, conscripts are starving and disillusioned. And getting killed. The Ukrainians are claiming around 4,000 or so. Even if less these are significant and unpopular losses.
Putin is having to smash his way through now, and this is the last thing he wanted to do. As I've explained earlier, the situation on the ground is so unstable that any puppet state he tries to instal will be ineffective.
So he's decided to trash the joint. This is the mindset of a certain Adolf who used to go off when he couldn't get what he wanted.
If Putin survives this colossal series of miscalculations I would be surprised. Possible. But his authority would be weakened and he will be deposed eventually. He's so insulated himself that nobody can get at him. Cutting him off might be a solution.
