The Polish armies did not fight in the cities, therefore they avoided civilian deaths. That was their strategy.

That’s nice. What a great strategy. All those civilian deaths avoided.

German troops invaded Poland on September 1, 1939, triggering World War II. In response to German aggression, Great Britain and France declared war on Nazi Germany.
On September 17, 1939, the Soviet Union invaded eastern Poland, sealing Poland’s fate. The last operational Polish unit surrendered on October 6.

Under the two occupations, Polish citizens suffered enormous human and material losses. According to the Institute of National Remembrance estimates, about 5.6 million Polish citizens died as a result of the German occupation and about 150,000 died as a result of the Soviet occupation.
