Why negotiate when you’ve got 20,000 Russians cut off in a pocket across the Dnipro river?

Russia can negotiate at any time. Putin said he “rather play ice hockey” than negotiate, before this invasion even started.

The onus is not on Zelensky to negotiate. If someone came and occupied a third of your house and said “you must negotiate with me” you’d be saying “get the hell out of my house now, or I’ll throw you out”, and this is what is happening.
