In regards to what Ukraine is fighting for, they are fighting to stop the loss of their territory, people, resources to Russia, and they are fighting to retain their nation state, identity, culture, language from Russian subjugation and cultural genocide.

Ukraine has been a corrupt country, and much of this had been due to close ties with the corrupt Putin mafia-state regime. The best pathway to a less corrupt Ukraine would be to meet the EU’s rigorous standards and integrate into Europe and get away from Russias baleful influence. This is exactly what Putin has been trying to stop since the early 2000’s however.

Simply repeating that ‘Ukraine is corrupt’ over and over as if that means that the West should abandon it to Russian subjugation is just not good enough. Ukraine is an independent nation, the will of its people was to join the EU. Russia has a chauvinistic sense that it can control neighbouring countries. Russia must be put in its place. It cannot brutalise neighbouring countries simply because they want to follow a different path.

Putin is the architect of this war & the corruption of the mafia state he created is the reason his military have performed so badly. Sadly, Russian people - many of them hapless Donbas conscripts or ethnic minorities from eastern Russia - are being used as cannon fodder in a futile attempt to advance Putins revanchist delusions.
