Instead of the Message (the demands), most on this forum are focussing on the individuals; Putin versus Biden.
Just look at the demands and ask yourself whether it is unreasonable?
Here is the core of Putin's demand:
- NATO, which is a MILITARY Alliance never expand into Ukraine, - Russia get security guarantees and in return Russia reciprocate security guarantees to Eastern European countries.
Ask yourself this: would we (US or our Gov) allow a potential enemy to base its military missiles 10 minutes away from US or our mainland?
Two examples: Cuba where the US almost went to war to stop the Soviet basing their missiles there, and Timor Leste, where we gave the green light for Indonesia to invade, for fear that either Soviet or Communist China would set up military bases there.
So, why is this any different?
In an ideal world, we would all live happily with each other.
But in reality (the current world we live in), we don't want any potential enemy - especially their military bases to be near our shores - refer to the examples above.
Now, the other issue of Russia getting security guarantees and reciprocating security guarantees to Eastern European countries - what is wrong with that?
Isn't that what peaceful nations do - offering security guarantees and receiving reciprocal security guarantees?
Ask yourself this: if it was our country which was under a security threat under a military alliance between PNG with Russia/China, do you think we have a right to seek a security guarantee?
Just go through this forum and see how many people went hysterical, when they read reports of Chinesefishing trawlers near our shores or when they read of a private Chinese company wanting to build resorts on PNG islands; about 200kms from our mainland.
We couldn't even accept Fishing Trawlers and Private Resorts - sohow do you think most of us would react if it was military bases, just 200km from our mainland?
