If Boris intervened to scupper a bad deal - the operative word being ‘if’ - then I say “bravo Boris!” If he said that Ukrainians did not have to submit to Russia on bad terms and that the West would support Ukraine in their fight then I say that Boris is a true friend to the Ukrainians and to freedom, and it was a far, far better thing that he did that day than he had even done before.
