You justify Putin's invasion of Ukraine not because they are not a NATO member, but because of the remote possibility that they might - might - become one, one day.

I assume you'd also justify Putin invading Finland (which borders Russia) because of the (now more likely) possibility of Finland joining NATO.

I assume you'd also justify Putin attacking Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania because they are already NATO members on Russia's border.
