'Strong consensus' for EU to use frozen Russian assets to help Ukraine

There is a "strong consensus" in the EU to use frozen Russian assets to help Ukraine, the bloc's foreign policy chief has said.

Josep Borrell spoke to reporters after a meeting with the foreign ministers of the EU's member states today.

He confirmed the revenues from the assets could be diverted to Ukraine.

"I am not saying there was unanimity, but a strong consensus to take this decision," he said.

Earlier today, the European Council agreed to increase its support for Ukraine by €5bn (£4.28bn) - see our 4.19pm post.

It all comes as Ukraine continues to highlight its need for weapons, ammunition and aid, with Volodymyr Zelenskyy repeating this message to US senator Lyndsey Graham today, as we reported at 5.50pm.
