"In the village of Makiv in southwestern Ukraine, there are very few men of fighting age left. And those who remain are afraid that they will be drafted into the army at any moment. Their neighbors hundreds of kilometers to the east are in trenches on the front lines. Some were killed and wounded. Some went missing, while others from this rural area, a couple of dozen kilometers from the borders of Romania and Moldova, fled abroad or found another way to avoid mobilization.

Military Commissars Grab Everyone They Can

Ukraine needs more troops, as its forces are depleted with wounded and killed. Despite Russia's huge losses, there are still many more occupiers than defenders of Ukraine. The Ukrainian parliament is discussing a bill to expand conscription, in particular by lowering the conscription age from 27 to 25 years.

Residents of Makiv say that the TCC military grabs everyone they can. In the west, the mobilization campaign is steadily sowing panic and discontent in small villages and towns such as Makov, where residents say soldiers working at recruiting stations roam the almost empty streets in search of the remaining men.

Such tactics have led some to believe that their people are being disproportionately persecuted compared to other regions or larger cities, such as Kyiv, where it is easier to hide.
