NATO: Defend its members (the Ukraine is a questionable extension of that
questionable is right ......the weakness in your argument ! Because Ukraine is NOT a member ....as you yourself pointed out - COULD NOT BE a member - and was not being encouraged to apply
so why do NATO and NATO countries support Ukraine so strongly - what are the real reasons ?
1. Strategic self interest -desire to stop russian expansionism in Ukraine so this war doesn't have to be fought in other European countries...THEIR country !putin has many times talked about his desire to have countries returned to russia
2.Precedent - this russian breaking of rule of law cannot be allwed to succeed
3. Altruism - morality if you like - sympathy for the Ukrainians being treated unfairly - desire for justice ....you like to pretend it doesn't exist - IT DOES !
I propose these as the rather obvious reasons the European nations have all strongly supported a smaller country attacked by a much larger power .
