The intention of the West was for Russia to engage in a military intervention in Ukraine. It was the ‘Afghan trap’ take 2. One of the consequences of that smart CIA doing was a fall of the Soviet Union. Putin was not Yeltsin and they had to work out the plan to get rid of him.
The sanctions were not designed to prevent the SMO, they were designed to punish Russian people and hopefully create the repeat of the ‘Orange Revolution’, which would lead to the regime change. It has not happened and the West is now stuck. Boris and Biden have not tried to hide, what the true intentions of the sanctions and assistance to Ukraine are.
