I'm talking about the current situation.

The war of attrition has found NATO lacking IMO. They (NATO) were unable to maintain the rate of supply of weapons and ammunition into Ukraine.

For now Russia has the upper hand.....

My personal view is that there will be NATO entry to west Ukraine if/when Russia overwhelms Ukraine on the battlefield. NATO are conserving their remaining resources.
