US scored a massive strategic own goal undoing years of anti nuclear proliferation work by not supporting a country who gave up nukes and backing down to a country with nukes (the “deescalation” theme is on to of and separate to the Republican treason). The outcome being absolutely no one in the future will ever give up nukes for “assurances” and it sent a massive signal to everyone that the only “assurance” for sovereignty are nuclear weapons.
