Around a third of the total emissions in the life of the average ICE vehicle come from its manufacture. Because of the mechanical failure of ICE vehicles as they age, the life of EVs should be far longer. Tesla are talking of a vehicle running a million miles. Wherever the power comes from to charge their batteries, the fuel consumed, whether it be Russian uranium, renewables, gas or coal can be a small factor when compared with the cost of the power station. Even if the fuel were free, nuclear power cannot compete with renewables. In the case of the Fukushima costs US$187 billion buys a lot of windmills and panels. As no one will insure a nuclear power station these costs are borne by the taxpayers.
