When the Gulf war was on I remember reading in Time magazine an article about Kurdistan area . There was mentioned that the amount of oil/gas untapped resources are huge . Ossalan ( the jailed in Turkey Kurdish leader) if he was not a communist , maybe Kurdistan was independent years ago. So as things are shaping , if Russia manage to control the area , the Turks wouldn't be too happy . And who knows ? . Maybe one of the rules for Turkey to be accepted (if ) in EU to be the free Kurdistan . For the ones don't know it , we are talking about 20 million people . The population of Australia .
