Exactly Joker. There is only downside for the Namibians under that scenario. The supposed $1B investment offered by the Russians represents nothing more than the startup capex already identified by EXT as the sum needed. This money can come from anywhere, and the operational timing at 2013 is pretty quck. The Namibs will benefit enormously in both mining roylaties and direct equity values, a situation that will not prevail under Russian operation. EXT went to great trouble to tie in the Namib government through localised ownership structures and local listing. The negative PR impact, not to mention the years of being tied up in international litigation would be irreversibly damaging to the country. This piece of journalism may or may not be a clear representation of fact, but it is clearly designed to stir someone's pot. Bring it on.
