Television is set to become the centrepiece of the connected home, with next-generation screens unveiled by Samsung, LG and Sony yesterday at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas.

Samsung, in particular, is pushing to make TV the central hub for internet-connected appliances and gadgets, collectively called the Internet of Things (IoT). Each of Samsung's premium UHD televisions, called SUHD, will come with a USB adapter to communicate with up to 200 IoT devices, including thermostats, cameras, speakers and more, working on the company's SmartThings platform.
