S.Korea nuclear stocks soar on UAE deal

SEOUL, Dec 28 (Reuters) - Shares in South Korean state utility KEPCO (015760.KS) hit a near two-year high and other nuclear power-related stocks jumped on Monday, boosted by a $20 billion contract signed over the weekend with the United Arab Emirates.

A consortium led by Korea Electric Power Corp (KEPCO) won the landmark deal on Sunday to build and operate four nuclear reactors. [ID:nLDE5BQ05O]

Analysts expect growing demand for nuclear energy and recognition from the UAE deal to help Korean builders, already strong players in refining and other industrial facilities, become leaders in nuclear power projects.

Shares of other members in the South Korean consortium also soared. Hyundai Engineering & Construction (000720.KS) was up nearly 7 percent. Samsung C&T Corp (000830.KS) climbed 6.2 percent and Doosan Heavy Industries (034020.KS) rose by the daily limit to its strongest level since May.

In addition to the $20 billion deal to design and build the reactors, the Korean consortium said it expected to earn another $20 billion by jointly operating the reactors for 60 year........
