Income tax is inherently unfair, we should not have such a large reliance on it.
True tax reform is needed not this tinkering with rates to win votes.

A token income tax with tax free threshold, combined with appropriate consumption tax is better.

It is also equitable based on your consumption. If the single person wants to live it up big, they pay tax just as a family would.
It is also harder to avoid.

The sooner we accept that a certain level of people will not be net taxpayers the better.
Why complicate it by taxing them then making them jump through hoops to get it back plus some.
Public service is the only winner there.
