Shutting mines in Sth Africa seems rather draconion. Even we have not shut down mines in OZ. Its especially weird given that mining is just about the only sector that keeps South Africa from economically imploding. Its already was a basket case before covid. You might take a rational view that perhaps shuts down underground mines ( where workers are in close confines for extended periods) but leaves open the open-cut mines where worker density is not anywhere as high. Whatever, the shutdown will need to end shortly with no income, poor communities, its a breeding ground for huge dissent
