Good post Sierra.
interesting that the tender result was announced just days after federal energy minister Josh Frydenberg was again talking up coal-fired generation.
It was only in February this year that Treasurer Scott Morrison bought a lump of coal into parliament and argued for its long term use, at once pretty much confirming both he and coal are anachronisms. amazing what the coal industry can achieve by donating to the Liberal Party: making Morrison look like the village idiot that many already regard him as.
how quickly the world of power generation is now turning with the announcement of this winning competitive tender for a solar thermal project in South Australia, at a projected price way cheaper than current gas-fired power in the state.
the project will face howls of opposition in so many different ways from the neanderthals in the Liberal Party and the coal industry that will surely test the mettle of the project's developers.
but this solar/thermal project, and South Australia's planned wind/battery project will put the state at the forefront of the energy revolution currently underway globally.
it may well be that these two major generation and storage projects will later be seen as the time when the whole sector in Australia started turning away from the dark ages of coal and gas fired generation into a brighter future for base load characterised by zero carbon emissions and cheaper power prices.
