Sure, fossil fuel will still be in demand but a rapidly declining demand caused by economics rather than because the process is so destructive.
My thoughts are that the carbon was once in the soil and the process that formed the fossil fuels depleted that soil by a staggering degree. We might find a way to return the carbon to enrich the soils. Perhaps even use the energy from that process in a truly clean way?
