Apparently SA police have been issued with 20 new laser hairdryers that not only detect speed but can now measure the distance between cars. they intend to use these on the Southern Freeway as tailgating is a accident problem. I don't know what the law is ( or whether it is SA specific but I doubt it) and what evidence the police would need to produce to convict you of tailgating but it is a definate revenue avenue that RDF could follow by incorporating into fixed cameras that would again increase revenue and safety.
Can anyone legal help out whether there is a specific tailgating law and distance or is it just a Neg driving charge the police hope to file???
