ozblue...this isnt new....the various configurations for a variety of homes has been trialled a lot in different countries. Primarily Netherlands, Germany and UK...and I have read subtle differences in how they can be configured.

In Netherlands they are generally hooking them up to old/existing/new boilers so that the waste heat from the BlueGen is pre-heating/heating the water giving you approx 200L of hot water a day.

I have seen different isntallations discussed that use the 200L of hot water through a heat exchanger to heat/pre-heat air for space heating. If you dont need space heating you turn off the heat exchanger and it all goes into your hot water tank.

In the UK they have :

The 300 litre thermal store, designed to work optimally with BlueGen, is heated primarily with waste heat from BlueGen and includes top up heat from a 1kW electric immersion heater, also powered by BlueGen. The thermal store acts as a reservoir of heat, storing it efficiently for when it is required for domestic hot water and space heating via thermostatically controlled radiators. The system also incorporates a back up 3kW immersion heater to provide heating and hot water in the event that gas is not available to supply the BlueGen.
Integrating BlueGen into this home provides a constant supply of clean on-site electricity. This clean electricity is supplemented with its heat utilised by the thermal store providing a constant supply of heat and hot water, responsive to household demand.
