2354 GMT [Dow Jones] More bad news for Qantas (QAN.AU) bid team's hopes of keeping
takeover alive with key regulators rejecting its request to count late acceptances and
extend offer for further two weeks. In shadow of market opening, ASIC says no reason to
depart from long-established policies as market was fully aware of deadline and that if
50% acceptances weren't received takeover would fail. Takeovers Panel's urgent
review of weekend decision also upholds its rejection of Airline Partners Australia
request. Panel said APA has to clarify as soon as possble its claim that it may have met
50% threshold before deadline. "This isn't a matter for the review panel to
determine," panel says. APA says it's exploring alternatives, including
possibility of renewed offer at A$5.45/share. (OGB)
