The joke, like all wars, is that soldiers are fighting and dieing, thinking that they are fighting "evil", while in the background there are political discussions going on to achieve a mutually acceptable arrangement that financially benefits the main parties.
Without the naivety and idealism of youth, this would cease, but hey, what's a few young lives here or there.
We can celibrate them every Anzac day and maybe even make it commercial.
