Actually, I am going to give a balanced opinion here.

When I read this morning that Goodes was "shattered", I thought to myself, "come on, really?". I can't speak for the player, I am sure Goodes has come across racists before, I am positive it is not the first time, and i am sure he wasn't "shattered" when it occurred. Let's not overplay it. Angry, YES, PISSED OFF, YES. FILTHY YES Shattered????

Now the other side. Racism in sport in Australia is slowly eroding. We have come such a long way and racial incidents are much much less than the past. In the past non-aboriginals knew they shouldn't say it, but never understood why. Today, non-aboriginals know they shouldn't say it and have a full understanding why, and genuine sympathy. Also, the reason why we have come so far is because of zero tolerance as far as racism is concerned. I think this is very important in totally stamping it out.

So while I do agree that Goodes deserves every right to be angry, i think it needs to be put into perspective. And that is he should be angry. And whatever it takes, there is no place for racial slurs like this.

And Disco Stu, I don't know how old you are or what generation Australian you are. But, people of Italian/Greek descent whom we have called "Wogs" had to put up with a lot growing up. They are the pioneers in multiculturalism and I believed they paved the way and took the brunt to get us where we are today. They were the ones who were the odd ones. It would have been just as tough for them. I am an Anglo and every year of school my class made up 25 Anglos, 2 Italian Greeks + 3 aborigines. And when i grew up in the north of Australia, it was 19 Anglos 10 aborigines, 1 (Wog - to be used in this context).

I think they (Italian/Greeks) are just as qualified as anyone to speak about racism and a lot of people who came after them owe them a lot of respect for Australia being such a tolerant place today.

And DS, mate, honestly, having a go at someone for calling a person coloured?????? The PC brigade changed black to coloured to suit their PCness. Going a bit far mate.
