last night ABC lateline had an interview with an Iraqi expatriot now living in Chicago as a trial lawyer and Iraq activist. He reminded us of how the British went into Iraq to liberate an oppressed people in 1916 yet such was the rebellion against the foreign incursion in 1920 the young Winston Churchill authorised the use of chemical weapons (WMD).
For any real advance to be made there will have to be the installation of a truly democratic institution, and not the placement and subsequent support of some anti communist stalwart. This will be the real test of the politicians.
