It depends on whether the market believes the forward earnings story enough to price it in beforehand. NMS at $1.50 was at a time when the market was prepared to accept promises from spec stocks at face value. It's a different market now, it is much more risk-averse and as such you won't see stellar returns on a vague promise and a rumour, regardless of the stock.
Also they have been diluted all to hell now, they now have at least double the number of shares on issue now compared to then, so $1.50 back then equates to just 75c now. 80c would actually be an all time high in adjusted terms.
