Bob Hawke's connection to China started with a visit in 1978 when he was head of the ACTU. After over 100 visits later, Bob Hawke believes that China isn't yet ready for democracy and urges a long term view of China's political and economic changes.
With numerous business and political connection, Bob Hawke has also formally advised China to establish a thoroughbred racing industry, with taxes generated to fund a much needed national social security system.
The former Australian Prime Minister, Bob Hawke, joined Geraldine Doogue at the Australia-China Relations Institute to discuss his insights into China.
