Interesting find! My 2 cents worth (or 11.5c at posting lol) would be that this is good news for NUH, and even more so for us backers. Consider the following IF the technology between NUH and the Ohio group overlap:

Firstly: NUH have this tech already incorportated into a commercially available (and very nice) product. As far as im concerned, there is no race. NUH have gone public with this invention and so any patents Ohio submit will be rejected on the basis of an unoriginal idea. This is also fantastic for Curtin Uni and their partnership with NUH. It shows that Australian Universities are now leading the research in these areas, which equals more funding and greater recognition.

Secondly: Ohio seem to be pitching more towards advanced hearing aids. Hearing aids are extremely expensive as it is without this technology. If Ohio are pitching a similar technology to NUH, well... NUH already have a comfortable design, and a foot in the door wrt this tech. NUH have made it the fraction of a cost of a normal hearing aid, and so have a leading potential to branch into the medicinal field depending on how they shift their research. However, NUH are pitching to a much wider audience, which suits us backers just fine.

Thirdly: Ohio surely must know about NUH or at least the tech. Curtin Uni would have published research leading up to, or contributing to the IQbuds. If Ohio's tech is similar to that of the Curtin team and they do not reference this work, then they are either a) Salty about Curtin's findings (which is in turn not a good look for them) or b) They havn't researched thoroughly enough (also not a good look).

In summary, I feel the Ohio Team have a different agenda to that of NUH, and so there won't be any market sensitive clashes. I was reassured by this especially on researching the cost of regular hearing-aids ($1.5k) and then trying to imagine the cost of an Ohio tech influenced hearing aid. Even if it just so happens that Ohio make an identical product to that of NUH, I feel that NUH (for around $300) have the price edge, and so Ohio had better start looking into some serious crowd funding.

Would love to hear what others think.
