Here is a thought. Don't mix religion with politics.

If we our legal system was directly influenced by the bible, Koran, or any other religious readings, we would have a very different set of laws.

So why do we still allow our definition of 'marriage' to be dictated in this manner?

Take the religious slant away from this argument and all you are left with is homophobes.
