    Hi Folks,

Had a poster recently proclaim "sunny" Nelson a low rainfall area. As corrected at the time rainfall in the province is actually relatively high and highly variable. Any doubters might like to read the below link.

Incidentally it has been reported here that Takaka (the nearest township to Sams Creek) received 423 mm in 24 hours in this event.

On another matter, John Key's government (that supposedly had such a stunning win - The so so authorative Economist said so, so must be true) has been signed in with a majority of ONE, 61 out of 121 MPs, including the support of two one seat parties. He has the support of another (3 seat) party for confidence and supply issues.

As I suggested was likely several weeks back the final result for the Greens was an additional seat (14) with a final vote count above 11%.

What I also expected, but which has not yet occurred, is some form of specific issues deal between John Key and the Greens. I now expect this to be very limited if any, with John Key likely to be less accomodating of the Greens.

The environmental issues around mining is likely to be more confrontational in the near future imho, and any opposition in Sams creek will imo focus even more on the environmental risks associated flash floods.
