Historically the State of Israel rarely cared about hostages and how the Jewish diaspora are treated in other countries, if it gained them support on the International stage or benefited them economically- usually from their defence industry.

They’ve a reputation with dealing unsavoury nations or questionable leadership!

The only hostage rescue that stands out to me is the raid on Entebbe, and I believe it involved Netanyahu and his brother, who I believed was killed on this raid.

If anything, Hamas could do the Israel community a favour in releasing the hostages to get rid off Netanyahu and possibly bring peace earlier to the ME.
