Journeyman,
Here is an extract from my EGM report back on HC in May '15. Note the reference to PB pursuing Govt. incentives to build the TNG solar plant. They have been on this train for some time.
" 9. Battery Storage
I think there's every prospect for a capex reduction for the planned TNG solar plant. If sandfire can achieve favourable financial support to the tune of $30m..then why not TNG & the other 1/2 dozen OZ miners planning similar installations? This is clearly a renewable energy/carbon reduction initative & we aren't talking "rooftop solar", which should allow the CEFC plenty of scope to assist & advertise the project.
- TNG is talking to a range of Companies involved with both Lithium-Ion (cars) & Vanadium (large scale grid) applications
- TNG planning for large scale storage facility to power Peake
- Environmental positives
- Plans to pursue Govt incentives to design / construct remote site facility using adaptable technology
- Potential opportunities to application to other remote mining sites in Australia/elsewhere"
The timing is probably too tight to see any capex savings (thru Govt funding/incentives) reflected in the DFS. However, we may see a projected capex reduction from the solar plant V diesel.
It feels like a very good story.
Cheers.
