Paris, France - June 8 2009

Sanofi-Aventis announced today that Jean-Philippe Santoni is appointed Senior Vice President, Industrial Development and Innovation, within Industrial Affairs. He was previously Senior Vice President International Development, R&D.

Jean-Philippe Santoni reports to Philippe Luscan, Senior Vice-President Industrial Affairs, and is a member of the Group Management Committee, and the Industrial Affairs Board.

"The new Industrial Development and Innovation Department is consistent with the vision we have of our industrial activities in the future," said Philippe Luscan. "OUR MAIN OBJECTIVE IS TO GET EVEN MORE INVOLVED IN THE DYNAMIC OF OUR PRODUCTS' LIFE CYCLE MANAGEMENT, THANKS TO INNOVATIONS SUCH AS NEW PROCESSES, NEW TECHNOLOGIES AND NEW MEDICAL DEVICES," he added.

"In the short and medium term, the Group's performance will be improved in particular by strengthening our industrial organisation through the development of NEW DRUG DELIVERY SYSTEMS AND MEDICAL DEVICES ADAPTED TO PATIENT'S NEEDS, as well as better understanding the region's needs."

Jean-Philippe Santoni holds a Masters of Sciences and a post graduate degree in statistics applied to medicine. He started his career at Servier in 1984. He joined Synthelabo in 1990 as Cardio Vascular Director, then Sanofi-Synthelabo Research as Vice President International Clinical Operations. After the merger with Sanofi-Aventis, he was appointed Vice President International Clinical Development.

I guess people have to make up their own minds, but with the first Anniversary of the Exclusive License Agreement between Unilife and Sanofi Aventis happening on July Ist, this appointment is a very clear indication of how important the partnership with Unilife is to Sanofi, and where it is headed.

Moreover, with such an important anniversay coming up, would it be too much to think we might have some appropriate news to mark the occasion?
