What happened to Kingfisher?

I'm sure that you and every other regular posters on HC knows that the local media were also upbeat about KF-E1. What did they say? Jobs, economy, energy and prosperity for the region and all that. That went on until the announcement of Super Profit Tax.

Have a look at the MEL chart from April/May 2010. It is also the beginning of Greenies campaign + Gasland. Perhaps the planets aligned for them at the time and the rest is history.

Did David and Glenda foreseen the difficult battles in the community that they suddenly have to factor into their operation? I do not believe they did. But to be fair, I don't think many people did either. Myself included.

But for God sakes I read DJ's article on the local paper "educating" the average person the steps involved in gas extraction. It was technical, it was dry as, and it wasn't going to work. We were in some rough ride after that.

In 2010, DJ presented in the North Cost Energy Forum - talked about the RVPS and the NRPS. In 2011 the forum was filled with "renewables". Why was that?

What could have happened to MEL, if it had pushed foward and drilled another KF well (KF-E2) as the company had initially planned?
Don't forget, it was the testing of KF-E1 that hydrolic fracturing was conducted which MEL had to later on defend itself against the ferals.

I would have liked and expected to see more conventional wells drilled ASAP following KF-E1. We had the $$$ from the SPP for that. But geez now looking back I'm just amazed how things can blow out of proportion and prevent a company to acheive it's potential in such a short time.
