Hi Blade,
I agree with your comments in relation to a possible takeover by Santos as it has been more than a rumour in the past. I’m referring to the newspaper article (The Australian) where the heading was “Santos could takeover gas JV partner Comet Ridge” but as you also rightly pointed out we have had Corona. Additionally we have had the price of oil collapse along with many other concerns for the sector including the emergence of ESG (Environmental Social Governance). So all of these events assisted in low or no investment in future proofing gas reserves and now the only path forward for the majors is for acquisitions to take place. This is where Comet Ridge could become a takeover target, but not only for Santos but just about any Australian OR global player. I say this as we have recently seen Sennex taken out by a left field player (Posco) no one had heard of until they emerged. You have Shell who bought Arrow in the past, the French Total Energies on the look out, Malaysian Petronas also on the hunt, Beach Petroleum, the list is a long one of potential suitors. Sadly a great deal of this recent urgency has been caused by the conflict in the Ukraine which bought to light the need for energy from stable countries like Australia. The price has spiralled so high that the cost of transportation to Europe is no longer an issue as has been in the past.
Lastly, I have to also agree that it may well be time to circle the wagons!
