He identified himself on August 21 2014 and said "...late last year I learned that a claim had been made about me...".
So he said nothing for at least 9 months and waited until Vicpol had given him the "all clear" before coming forward.
I wouldn't call that "facing the music". That would have been if he came forward when the allegation was first made - 9 months earlier and had to publicly sit through the investigation.
