Yes, of course you are correct. I was not speaking philosophically, but rather about the business end of science, as a working scientist: You need to have both your methods and your results stand up to scrutiny. Results by themselves, even if correct, will not be recognised if the methodology is found wanting.

In principle, all knowledge and understanding is provisional in science; "truth" is a concept that fits more comfortably into religious and other dogmatic systems of thought. Which is why so many religious attacks based on the "truth" or otherwise of, say, evolutionary theory are so often off the mark.
