Weekend Winners – Saturday, October 5

Welcome to Weekend winners, your one-stop tipping sheet for Saturday, October 5.
Epsom Handicap TIP - Lidari - (Randwick - Race 7 No. 11): He finished alongside Fiorente in the Dato Tan Chin Nam Stakes last start and drops 6kg from that into this. His first-up run was huge and he looks the type that relishes a fast pace, which is highly likely here. He's a classic case of an import that's taken a preparation to find his best and he brings a different formline to this making him one that appeals to us.

Turnbull Stakes TIP - ROYAL DESCENT (Flemington - Race 8 No. 16): She's progressing as well as any stayer in the country and now she gets to a suitable distance. They ran good time in the George Main Stakes and she was finishing the race off in a manner that suggested the 2000 metres next start would be ideal. We concede she's tackling some big guns here for the first time but she is the third favourite for the Caulfield Cup and looks a terrific bet at $13 with Ladbrokes 'double fixed odds'.

STAR BET - PERON (Flemington - Race 10 No. 9): She had no chance when resuming yet flew home for second and is ideally suited out to the 1400 metres here. If you put the pen through her run in the Tatts Tiara when she missed the start and was trapped wide on an unsuitable wet track, then she's been virtually unbeaten working through the grades. She looks a genuine Group I mare that's well placed on 55.5kg here and perfectly drawn away from the rail given they're likely to swooping late in the day.

VALUE TIP - HIDDEN WARRIOR (Randwick - Race 8 No. 10): Beaten less than a length by Sessions when resuming and gave him 1kg. He's always shown above average ability, is a four-year-old that'll be on-pace, has the master Jim Cassidy in the saddle, a gun barrier and yet they're still giving $21 about him.

STABLEMATE TIP - Tanby (Flemington - Races 6 No. 2): Lloyd Willams has two in the race with the highly touted Sea Moon the current $2.40 favourite ahead of this bloke at $11. Sea Moon's two runs since arriving down under have been inconclusive and we can't have him at the price especially when he's got barrier 14 and they're running straight into a bend. Tanby on the other hand has barrier 1 and is proven around this track and distance.

CLASS TIP - PAXIMADIA (Flemington - Race 3 No.3): He's got form around Zoustar and always looked like he'd make a better three-year-old. The Sydney horses have been going to Melbourne and beating them up week after week this season. The stable know when to travel them and the wide draw just gives us a better price.

PACE TIP - BRITISH GENERAL (Flemington - Race 5 No. 3): This bloke had to cart the field up to the tearaway leader last start when second-up and he battled on well. He had a tough run first-up and was probably looking for 21-days between runs so that adds further merit to his last run. He loves this track and distance and won't have to work too hard early, leaving him plenty of energy for his midrace surge.

2YO TIP - TOTALLY SURE (Doomben - Race 1 No. 9): She won a trial and is from an astute stable. Normally we'd be hesitant about tipping a two-year-old first starter from a wide barrier but the early money suggests it won't make a difference.

$50 QUADDIE STRATEGY - FLEMINGTON: Don't rule out Super Cool in the Turnbull because of his average run last start. He's better than that and is a Group I weight-for-age winner over this track and distance Fiorente and Royal Descent are the ones to beat there. We really fancy Peron in the last but Flying Snitzel and Zurella have won over this track and distance while Catkins is bomb-proof. A $50 investment will yield 16.67 percent of the dividend if successful.

    3rd leg: 4, 6, 8, 9, 13

$50 QUADDIE STRATEGY - RANDWICK: It's hard to comment on what we've done as there isn't any real standouts in any legs this week. We're happy to leave Ecuador out of the Epsom and reckon Hidden Warrior is a great smokey in the third leg. A $50 investment will return 10 percent of the dividend if successful.
