Saudi Arabia Calls for Summit on Energy Costs

Saudi Arabia, the world’s biggest oil exporter, said on Monday that it wanted to convene an energy summit of producers and consumers to focus on "how to objectively deal" with high prices.

President Bush has visited Saudi Arabia twice this year and each time failed to secure a commitment from the Saudis to pump more oil into the market. But some experts say that the Saudis are concerned about the impact of high prices on the American economy, the world’s largest consumer of oil, and the growth in alternative fuels.
