The greens agenda is to abolish coal fired power stations and replace them with alternatives such as wind turbines.
Not only is the production of wind turbines not green, they don't count the fact that they CAN'T recycle them when past their use by date.
Each large wind turbine contains 300kg or Rare Earth Magnets. This is something the greens avoid talking about.
A direct drive permanent-magnet generator uses two tonnes of neodymium based permanent magnet material. The wind turbine industry relies on neodymium, which also has a catastrophic environmental impact and creates a dilemma for environmentalists who want to see growth in the industry. The greens don't see the environmental destruction caused while making wind turbines. This means clean energy for some and pollution and misery for others.
Whilst wind power is clean energy, to achieve this is not so clean and produces extraordinary pollution in China, which produces 97% of the worlds rare earth metal used in wind turbines. ( pg 10, Letters to editor Cairns local news 21.2.2025)
