What that shows is not mainly due to climate change. It points out the abuse of the oceans by over fishing over populating and pollution of the planet. Proof that it can be managed is shown by the way the chinese have established Islands where once there were only underwater reefs. Ask the question "are island communities threatened by rising water or sinking land." It doesn't really matter the question should be " what are we doing about it.

The Queensland Gold coast has battled with beachside erosion for decades. They now manage it by making sure sand eroded is replaced. Byron Bay on the other hand has a Green Council that allows nature to take its course, a course that will see has seen property values for beach side land evaporate.

We should learn to live with changing climate, not fight it. Manage it.

One example is the whales. I was actively associated with whaling and saw the dessimation of the whale population. Whaling in the fifties was controlled so that the herd size was managed through quotas. Quotas designes to make it a sustainable industry. Aristotle Onassis put together a fleet of 50 ships, ignored the quotas and within 2 years had reduced the whale population to just a few. The humpback numbers travelling on the east coast of Australia were reduced from around 6000 to 300. Whaling was stopped to allow the herd to recover and now that herd size is estimated to be around the original 6000.

The Chinese fishing fleets are now "the Onassis of the fishing industry" and will be a disaster once again. Japanese long liners have reduced the tuna numbers dramatically. I've also seen a serious decline in the fish numbers in local rivers, particularly the Clarence River where trawling for prawns has destroyed the sea grass, kills thousands of small fish and harvests small prawns that, if left to move to sea would be much larger. Small jewfish, whiting and flathear are killed by the thousands.

Climate change is only a minor, minor problem but it is the whipping horse for activists.
